Good News

Welcome to the Good News section of For the Love of Recess! Here, we will share updates and news articles about our organization and recent visits to Catholic schools in need.

 The Next Generation of Changemakers

For the Love of Recess wrapped up an incredible week of spring break deliveries with their third and final stop at St. Thomas the Apostle School in Old Bridge, dropping off three bins of fresh recess supplies to close out a week that none of us will forget. But this visit was about more than just recess equipment. Our team had the opportunity to have a thoughtful conversation about the future with a principal. We discussed coming back in the fall to speak with their 8th graders about hands-on community service, what it takes to start a nonprofit, and how students can become REACH Ambassadors for For the Love of Recess. The response was enthusiastic and the door is wide open.

Where Warm Weather and Big Smiles Meet

For the Love of Recess made a stop at Saint Raphael School in Hamilton, delivering three more bins of fresh recess supplies just as the warmer weather was starting to roll in. Saint Raphael is a vibrant Catholic school serving students from preschool through eighth grade, rooted in a tradition of academic excellence and faith that dates back to 1921. With a tight-knit community and a dedicated faculty, it is the kind of school where everybody knows everybody, and that warmth was on full display when our volunteers arrived. Our team got to connect with the most adorable group of students who helped kick off the delivery, and the excitement in the air was contagious. Bright smiles, warm weather, and three bins ready to go. It was a perfect day and a perfect reminder of why every bin matters.

We are grateful to the Saint Raphael community for welcoming us so warmly and look forward to continuing to grow this relationship.

Every Girl Deserves a Great Recess

For the Love of Recess made a meaningful stop at Sisters Academy of New Jersey in Asbury Park, delivering three bins of fresh recess supplies to a school that truly embodies the spirit of community and service.

Sisters Academy is a tuition-free, independent middle school serving girls in grades four through eight. Rooted in the mission of the Sisters of Mercy, the school is committed to providing young women from the surrounding community with the tools they need to access and succeed in competitive high schools and universities. Every girl who walks through their doors receives not only a quality education but a community that genuinely believes in her potential. Our volunteers had the opportunity to connect with the principal and spend time with the girls, and the conversations were warm, genuine, and full of energy. Dropping off supplies to a school like Sisters Academy is a reminder of exactly why For the Love of Recess exists. Every child deserves the chance to run, laugh, and play, and we are grateful for the welcome we received.

Pay It Forward, One Recess at a Time

For the Love of Recess was thrilled to visit Our Lady of Sorrows School in Hamilton, delivering four bins of fresh recess supplies to a school that has been serving its community with faith and dedication since 1890. During the visit, our team had a wonderful conversation with the principal about an idea we are really excited about, schools paying it forward by nominating other Catholic schools to be our next stop. When a school receives, they become part of a growing chain of generosity that keeps spreading joy and play to kids who need it most. That is the kind of momentum that changes things, and we are grateful to the Our Lady of Sorrows community for embracing that vision.

Team Effort: A Gift from the Heart

This gift took a lot of heart and teamwork! When one of our REACH ambassadors heard about a devastating fire at a Catholic school in Pennsylvania, we knew we had to help. The incredible community of St. Gregory the Great in Hamilton, NJ, came together to collect recess equipment—enough to fill three large containers! Meanwhile, our newest REACH ambassador, Kyleigh, led an effort at St. Paul’s in Princeton, NJ, to create Easter baskets packed with teachers’ wishlist items and fun craft kits for the children. When we arrived at St. Francis of Assisi, the school community was overjoyed by the outpouring of support. Seeing the kids’ excitement over their new supplies reminded us why we do what we do—because every child deserves the joy of recess!

Brooke and Riley Pulaski have taken their Catholic school lessons on outreach to heart by establishing a nonprofit that seeks to bring healthfulness a step closer for Catholic schools in the Diocese who could use additional resources. READ MORE

When we heard that a school in Paterson, NJ is in need of recess equipment, we knew immediately it would be the next stop for donations!

We met with Sister Jo-ann Pompa and learn so much about the school and its tenacity to stay open and serve its community.  We are so happy to be able to provide their students with four large bins filled to the brim with new recess equipment to enjoy!

A Note From Sacred Heart

Our First Stop!

Our Lady of Mount Carmel School and its inspiring principal played a vital role in the creation of For the Love of Recess. We were thrilled to make our first donation to the school, which holds a special place in our hearts. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we were able to provide the school with the necessary equipment for students to enjoy recess to the fullest. This first donation is just the beginning, and we will continue to work tirelessly to bring joy to children across the country. Thank you for your support!
